My 2011-2012 School Social Work Office

This is my 3rd year as a school social worker for USD 259. I loove my job and the kids that I meet. They are like a second extended family!!! If only I can impact their lives as much as they impact mine, I will have done my job :-)

So, my space...I lead group 3-4 times a day so I have to make my space warm, cozy and fun because afterall the reality is that kids tend to not get overly excited when they are coming to group counseling "class". I goal is to change that mindset quickly after the kids arrive and as new ones trickle in throughout the year. My room screams bright, cheerful and fun (to me at least) and I am very blessed to have a fabulous boss (principal) who lets me haul in furniture, paint walls and constantly rearrange and tweak.

WELCOME!!!

Creative/Work Space

Okay, so they are not actual balls but I made them by cutting up a pool noodle which is much cheaper

My desk, much cleaner than normal :-)

Oodles and caboodles of worksheets, lessons and resources

I made these crate seats but copied the idea from a blog...check it out here:

Games, homemade sand tray, bubbles, games and umm lets see...more games

THE END!

Kindergarten

I'm going to keep this short and sweet because otherwise I'll be a blubbery mess sitting here at 10:30 at night all by myself :-(

Wednesday is the start of a new chapter in Mr. Jaydons life....becoming a kindergartener and beginning his journey through school. The many emotions I have been having are now a bit overwhelming and I cannot believe it has snuck up on me so fast. I remember when he was pre-walking stage and I used to pray that God would bless him with my short genes while he was little so that I could soak up as much of it as I could....and that he did. Now, however, he is more than half my size and I just don't know where the time went. I'm excited and scared all at the same time. He is not my little boy anymore but he is so ready and is so going to do great things!!!

Loving him is so easy but watching him grow up is so hard.

And so this is my prayer...

God, please slow our paces and help us to enjoy the moments of this new adventure - school. Watch over Jaydon while he is away at school doing great things.
Guide his path right now into the classroom - designed by You - with the teachers and classmates that are a perfect fit.
Be with us, mommies and daddys, give us Godly wisdom that surpasses worldly information, suggestions, research, well meaning advice and even our best intentions......... You be in charge of their lives and raise them up.
Protect their every step.
Help us not to get in the way, but to be your hands and feet and to love them like only You can.
Pick us up when we make mistakes and help us to learn from them.
Encourage and refresh us daily.
Praise be to You, alone, for my precious boy!
Amen

Ready, Set, Go....

Found this and had to repost :-)
I knew it would happen eventually;
frankly, I'm surprised I lasted this long.
It's been a lovely summer,
with lots of fun trips,
swimming,
time with friends,
sitting on my butt,
NO PLANS.
But.
I AM READY TO GO BACK TO WORK.
I've been home since May 26.
I need an excuse to take a shower before 5pm
{not exaggerating}.
When left to my own devices, I'm hard to motivate.
And I'm tired of being unmotivated.
Another plus?
Getting PAID to deal with unruly children.
Bring it, 2011/12 school year.

Countdown...

So after about umteen thousand years of putting it off and making excuses as to why I should wait, I am finally ready to take my blog LIVE.

I'm hoping to engage my love for writing and my love for the blog world with my very own but perhaps more importantly this blog will serve as my own personal therapy. I have lots to say, share and rant and rave about. And of course all of those hopes, dreams and aspirations along with a lot of not so important random things that I'm sure will come spewing out of my mouth once I become more comfortable with my blogging abilities.

Soo, see this as a short and sweet tease for what's to come...I plan to go live with my first "real" post August 9th :-)
